Extrite - DevLog 1

Actual Changelog is at the bottom

Heyall! I’d like to preface this DevLog by thanking the 15 peoples who clicked on the Extrite thumbnail, and even more the 4 persons who actually downloaded it!! You got to play the first ever public version of this mess haha.

Releasing to the public

Throwing this unfinished software in the wild was not an easy decision. I really wanted to release something polished and feature complete, so why did I choosed otherwise. Well, after multiples months of development, I started to doubt the project, real hard. I wanted to start another idea I had in my head but I figured I’d be happier if at least this time I could cross the finish line.

By releasing this unfinished version, I hope to get feedback from you! Even if it’s just by looking at a graph of download & views/day, this already motivates me even more to finish this game and get it to where I want it to be.

Central modes (FFA & Marathon)

FFA and Marathon are really supposed to be the breadth of the game. However, right now I can only discourage you from playing them (Go play guess or color).

For FFA, I’d like it to be a mode where your board changes dynamically as you stack and match, you could have bonuses (Block by block gravity, less colors, …) and maluses (gravity swap, board height reduction, …)

As for marathon, I’d like the player to feel immersed for some 10-30 minutes with the effects and the music. Having to change strategies on a whim after reaching points threshold etc etc…

Update frequency

As you can read, this is the first update of the game. In the future, I’d like to have a more clean update frequency. Right now, the game is still in a state that I’m not very proud of, so, one could expect an update every week.

Actual changelog

  • I pieces now get properly kicked
  • A more flashy death anim (with sparkles and sounds)
  • New fanfare sounds!
  • Reduced game size (reduced audio fidelity but who cares)
  • Fixed a bug that would cause the controllers to not work after a restart
  • SinglePlayer game over menu can now be controlled with a controller
  • Queue now display the proper colors of the blocks
  • “Classic stacking” mode now has more standard colors for the blocks

Thank you for reading this, it means a lot to me. ^^

Have a good day!
